Work, life and things in between – Day 6: My foursome!

Work, life and things in between – Day 6: My foursome!

So, here is me, from there to here! A single Mom of three who has raised her children on her own from the time the eldest was fifteen and the youngest, six.  Boy, Boy, Girl.  We are what I called MY foursome! A handful I might add, and now, I am facing an open ended sabbatical. Wow! who would have thought?

As I was busy raising my children I also completed my post graduate studies, progressed in my career from local business to Corporate America changing my scope of work from single site management to global operations and moved twice with the final move being in Vancouver. Human Resources is my thing!

I have seen the rise and fall of a few relationships, some more significant than others but none significant enough to stick through all this.  Those years were some extreme reality show except that no one ever shouted “Cut, it’s a wrap!” at the end of the day…it just kept on going.

Now in my life, I am witnessing the ever decreasing visits to the gym, the abandonment of my piano, the estrangement from any domestic related activities, including cooking, and an unwanted but tenacious excess skin around my waist line.

My days had become one gigantic spin, exciting and exhilarating at times, exhausting and challenging most of the time and downright debilitating more often than I care to admit!

I spent as much time in transit as I did at home, and that was particularly challenging when home was hard to define, and still is. My golf clubs were in Florida, my downhill skis in Vancouver and my loved ones in Montreal.  Depending on my schedule and the time of year, you would find me next to anyone of these!

Needless to say, the Air carrier personnel knew me by name.

What can I say?  Everybody needs a friend!

My reality, from a very simple point of view had become 2 targets: At work; the everlasting quest was “How to get five quarters out of every buck?” and on the personal level it was “How to get 25 hours into the day?” Both equally unsustainable although we got close to the 5 quarters more often than I did the 25 hours.

Eventually this came to an end. I had an opportunity to get off the tread mill and I took it.  First things, first: I started with a vacation.

You heard me right.  Vacation! To day 7.So, here is me, from there to here!
