Work, life and things in between- Day 48 – Laying lazily!

Work, life and things in between- Day 48 – Laying lazily!

So, I am back on line looking into this Executive program at Royal Roads University.  Coaching is something I like, and believe in and even though this is not what I graduated in, I practiced it all my career.

Registration closes down in 3 weeks!  This is 21 days from now.  OMG!  I get on the phone.   Call my former college and university for transcripts,  chase former employers down for reference letters and check with the University to make sure there are still some vacancies on that program.  There are they say, but you must hurry.

“Go on line, complete the registration form, make sure to send us your check and all required documents, including your detailed bio, reference letters, transcripts, reasons for applying…

Sigh…Didn’t I just want to be on vacation?

Why is it that I seem to be struggling all the time with this mind set of “leave me alone,  I just want to be off and lazy for once in my life!” and yet can’t sit still for more than a few hours?   Nobody would care , or object, if I were just lazy?  So what is the big deal?

Am I scared or just stupid?  Are there two of me?   It feels like these tricky birthday cake candles that you blow out but the flame never goes away.   Every time I decide to be idle and not plan anything, the fire lights again and I want to embark on something else!

Looking back on the last 8 to 10 years of my career I can tell that the truly lasting element I have found in the corporate world is the value of the individuals within the organization.

Not the strategy,  not the business plan,  not the career path and not the client’s loyalty.   All of these die and are reinvented on a 2 year cycle it seems.  Or even shorter.   Pretty much ties up with the CEO cycle.

So, where it is really worthwhile to invest time and efforts is in the individual’s development and well being.  Everything else is up for grabs.  If your leader or colleagues are out of whack, you are in for quite a ride!   In the end, everyone loses, including the organization.   May as well get it right from the start!

Coaching is also about giving and receiving….what a nice, warm, fulfilling place to be! Wouldn’t that be nice? Make a lasting difference?

I’m in!  Let’s see now what this entails….something tells me there is more to this than what I am seeing today! To day 49.
