Work, life and things in between – Day 37 – Perpetual motion!

Work, life and things in between – Day 37 – Perpetual motion!

My life is not a restful one. By choice! I have lived in 6 of the Canadian provinces, as well as in the United States and Europe. I have packed and unpacked my household goods, never mind my suitcase, more times than I care to remember.  I am always up for a new project or a trip.  Being in motion is what I like however, I always feel that one day I will need to settle down. I am not sure why I keep wanting to find where that will be.  Maybe it is time I admit that home is in my head and heart, not where I pay my taxes.

Today Tem and I are deliberately lazy.  It is a long week end after all. The delightful luxury of letting the day go by, aimlessly.  We are joining my longtime friends in a rustic restaurant in St Irenee for lunch. They live in Quebec City but spend as much time as they can here in the Charlevoix region.

These friends, next to my family, are the pillars of my life.  I have known them for over forty years now.  I cannot imagine being without them and yet I have lived most of my life away from them. See…saw…I want to, but I don’t want to!  If nothing else, there is an argument for quality over quantity!

Whenever I see them I think it is time for me to come home.  Tonight is no exception. Time with them is good to my soul.

Despite the distance, we head home to Montreal so that I can be with my family for dinner.  My Mom and Dad together with my two (2) brothers and sister are getting together for a rare gathering.

Being that at any given time there is always a minimum of two (2) of the four (4) of us living outside of the province, family dinners when all of us are attending are a rare commodity.

My parents have aged.  So have we.  They are guests tonight, my brother is the host.  All part of growing up.

My family is a rich family.  I don’t mean financially, I mean emotionally.  We cherish our time together and one another.  Simply.  Truly.  This may sound like a Hallmark card but there is no other way to say it.

Being away from my parents in their old age is a continuous concern of mine.  I am lucky that despite their age, they are not old yet.  But, it will come.  So, when I think of my professional life going forward, the location is a big item.

The more time I spend in Vancouver, the more I feel like home is here.  Yet, the more I age, the more I am pulled towards Montreal.  Sigh!

I spent my life thinking that life was somewhere else! Looks like this thinking may be coming to a crunch! Who knows what tomorrow holds? My life is not a restful one. By choice!
