Work, life and things in between – Day 33 – Time management!

Work, life and things in between – Day 33 – Time management!

Heading back to Montreal from Quebec City, I drive casually along.  There is no hurry.  This does feel good.  I find myself thinking of my former job and missing some of it.

Missing the colleagues mostly and the environment outside of work, such as a few favorite restaurants, the walks on the beach, the easy shopping (shoes, you know…), the staff greetings at the hotel; we had almost become family after all these visits.  I guess what I miss is the comfort of a routine; going back to familiar places, going through the drill.

Once work stops, you immediately become master of your time.  A constant fantasy of most full time workers.  In this case, dreams become reality and they can challenge you.  Time, like anything else, needs to be managed to be efficient.  Bomber!

Of course, you can plan to be on vacation and then it is ok not to manage it.  But vacations have a start and end date.  Sabbatical, at least mine, only has a start date…no end date yet.  This is not quite as cozy as a seven day all inclusive vacation.

For starters, all inclusive when you are not working can be pretty impressive.  Just try to think about all you could do and buy if you were off work for a few months….that trip to Europe, that kitchen renovation, that gym program, that new bike, all these new restaurants, and now you have time to sit and look around and see and discover all you did not know was there before and you want a piece of it.  It takes planning and restraint.  Believe me.   Planning because you cannot do it all and restraint because you can’t afford it all!  You have heard of the saying: “You can’t have your cake and eat it too?”  Well this is what it means!      To day 34.
