Work, life and things in between – Day 21: Facing the day!

Work, life and things in between – Day 21: Facing the day!

I need to face this day. I hate shopping. I can no longer push it back. I am getting on a plane next week and will be gone for two weeks and will need to take care of this today.

I get up with the sun.  I eat a good breakfast, gulp a strong cup of coffee to ensure I am just sufficiently on edge; I make sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes, I take my sunglasses in case it becomes sunny and carry my umbrella (this is Vancouver remember?) in case it rains. I have some extra food in my bag in case I get hungry. I take a deep breath, gather all my courage and press the elevator button.

I am determined to face whatever comes my way.

I am shopping and need to come home with: a laptop, a mobile phone and mobile phone plan as well as an Internet USB stick and associated plan. If you knew me you would know that this is a gigantic task for me. I hate shopping. I would rather go to the dentist.

Too many options. The delta from the cheapest to the most expensive plan is so wide that you think for sure there must be a truck load of unnecessary features or else a world of significant differences. Without obtaining a PhD in computer sciences, you want at a minimum to understand what you are buying and equally what you are opting out of. This takes time and far more interest in the minutia that I will ever have.

I will spare you the details but I come home five hours later with all items crossed off my list. I even have some added bonuses on that list such as a glossy lipstick, a sweater, today’s newspaper and of course, dinner. Take out I must confess.

It is however, day 21 of my pretended sabbatical and my fridge is still empty. I do plan to pick up cooking again. Have I mentioned this? It is just that I have not made it to that item on my list yet!

I get home, make myself a cup of tea, sit on the balcony and put my feet up.

I am so proud of myself. I did not even get upset once. In fact, the personnel were quite pleasant and I found that I almost enjoyed myself today. I learned a lot and best of all, I am all done. I don’t need to go back tomorrow.

Other than dinner which I pull out for immediate use, I leave everything else in the bags. I was good enough to go out and buy this stuff, dont think for a minute that I will set it up now.

I draw the line.

I have someone scheduled to come in later on this week and set it all up for me. On to day 22 .I need to face this day. I hate shopping. I can no longer push it back. I am getting on a plane next week and will be gone for two weeks and will need to take care of this today.
